Greek Olympic Athlete Expelled for Racist Tweet

Uh-oh, better watch those “tweets” twitterers.

Seriously, we here at love anyone (and everyone) who follows us in social media, but if you’re a celebrity, certainly, you should try to keep a handle on racist rants that you (should) know could show up online. Right?

This is what you would think, but then again, people can’t help themselves from being who (and what) they truly are. Not that we’re calling anyone racist (at least not yet and not without our trusty legal department notified beforehand).

That being said, according to ABC News, in a piece by Alon Karish,

it was revealed that 23 year old Greek triple jumper Paraskevi Papachristou (yes we checked the spelling) was expelled from Greece‘s Olympic team

for tweeting “With so many Africans in Greece, at least the mosquitos of West Nile will eat homemade food!!!” on Sunday.

While it’s nice to be considerate and we certainly can’t her a racist for that tweet, we do have to admit that that particular

comment wouldn’t exactly be too endearing were she to say that directly in front of her African Olympic counterparts. And

the comment is even more uncouth when you consider the factor that Papachristou is representing her country in a global

competition that is supposed to (somehow) show the best each country has to display.

Further adding to the former-Olympian’s turn off factor is the fact that when people first began to complain that her comment was

unappealing and potentially racist, Papachristou was quite defiant in even more tweets, defending herself and her comments.

A few days later, however, she was suddenly very apologetic, and even remorseful.

Sorry to see you go, angry Greek former-Olynmpic athlete.
